As we’re about to celebrate the US Independence Day on July 4, I’d like to submit the idea that we can also hope for and work towards our financial independence day. Just as our founding fathers fought for our independence back in the day, so we can today also fight to become financially independent, and for some of us, mark the day on our calendar when we found ourselves there, on our very own financial independence day.
Today, I’d like to talk about a training program that I’ve been looking into over the past month called, Wealthy Affiliate. While I’ve been a web developer for over 10 years now, I’ve found the training quite useful in terms of learning how to market a website, do keyword research and generate traffic.
What does this have to do with financial independence or independence day?
The training helps ordinary people that aren’t writers or marketers find out that they can be and that they can make income on the side or even a living out of it. When you think about it, everyone is an expert on at least one subject. Wealthy Affiliate provides the training on how to put that to good use and also provides the tools to succeed.
And Wealthy Affiliate is so much more too. Wealthy Affiliate is also an online community of over 800k active members from all walks of life that help each other succeed through forums, chats, and training built from past experiences. Members share with each other what works and what does not work. Also, members help each other when they get stuck. And, members give constructive criticism and provide feedback on each others’ websites to further boost search engine rank and community engagement.
How does the Affiliate in Wealthy Affiliate become Wealthy?
Affiliate marketing. The training provided at Wealthy Affiliate is a step by step guide on how to create a new website (with WordPress) and through thorough keyword research generate organic search engine traffic. When there’s traffic on the website(s), there’s also the potential for affiliate links. Affiliate links are, essentially, links to services and products that are related to what your website is about our products and services that we recommend. To 24oz of unsweetened, cold almond milk, add:
- 1 teaspoon local raw honey
- 1 teaspoon green tea matcha

- 1 teaspoon cacao powder

Blend on high for 30 seconds. Enjoy!

Ready for the summer? Today, we got surprised by a hot sunny day in Santee, CA. Not that it’s strange for us to have beautiful sunny weather here in San Diego, but it’s been cold and rainy the last few weeks. So was today just a fluke or what marks the first day of our summer?
What you don’t want on a day like this though is to get dehydrated! Drinking plenty of water is definitely a good thing, especially if you’re a coffee drinker. But not everyone likes just “plain” water so here’s our recipe for a tasty summer drink that will definitely keep you hydrated.
In 1 gallon of filtered water add:
- 1 medium orange, cut in 1/4 inch slices
- 1/2 cucumber, cut in 1/4 inch slices
- 10 mint leaves (fresh is better but dried will do too
- Add ice if you want it cold
Gently mix it all up and enjoy!
Cucumbers help your body to retain water. Remember how we mentioned coffee drinkers? Caffeine actually does the opposite, it helps your body get rid of water. Cucumbers are also alkaline which means that it helps your body regulate it’s pH, neutralizing the acidity from other foods, especially processed foods, and gives you a better chance of warding off infection.
Citrus in general help cleanse your intestines and even promote fat burning and weight loss. But perhaps what makes it so good in our drink is that it helps reduce stress, refreshing and revitalizing along the way.
There are all sorts of things that mint is good for and along with the orange and cucumber, it’s actually pretty tasty too! Mint also refreshes is known to take headache away, by smelling it or massaging some of the essential oil on your temples. Imagine what it can do to your dehydration headache if you drink it!
Where do we get our ingredients? Our favorite place for these ingredients is Growers Direct. They’re a small, farmers-market-like shop on University Avenue, on the border between San Diego and La Mesa. Today, I tried the “Open Your Mind” and I was actually pleasantly surprised by this drink. I’ve heard a few positive things and a few negative things about adding butter or coconut oil to your coffee and decided to test it out for myself.
