Open Your Mind from GoodOnYa Deli

Today, I tried the “Open Your Mind” and I was actually pleasantly surprised by this drink. I’ve heard a few positive things and a few negative things about adding butter or coconut oil to your coffee and decided to test it out for myself. I think by blending both into the coffee with a hint of cinnamon and raw honey (these were optional on my part), GoodOnYa Deli was able to pull it off excellently!

Here’s some excerpts from their ordering page:

We blend that together with Dark, Rich, Organic Coffee.

The healthy fats shoot to your brain and give you energy and focus. They also balance out the caffeine.

Superfood Power Smoothie with Navitas Naturals

Last week I ordered a number of Navitas Naturals products and decided to experiment with a Superfood Smoothie. The following is what I was able to come up with and has become a favorite for us. Here it is in a nutshell:

In a blender add:

1 cup almond milk (we use Blue Diamond)
Blue Diamond Almond Breeze

2 cups warm drinking water (around 80 F is fine)

1 tsp Navitas Naturals Goji Powder

1 tsp Navitas Naturals Camu Powder
Navitas Naturals Camu Powder

1 tsp Navitas Naturals Lucuma Powder
Navitas Naturals Lucuma Powder

1 tsp Navitas Naturals Acai Berry Powder
Navitas Naturals Acai Berry Powder

1 tsp Navitas Naturals Pomegranate Powder
Navitas Naturals Pomegranate Powder

2 heaping tsp Navitas Naturals Cacao Powder
Navitas Naturals Cacao Powder

contents of 1 capsule of Nature’s Way Elderberry

1 eye dropper of Solgar Vitamin D3 (5000 IU)

2 eye droppers Omica Organic Liquid Stevia (with vanilla)

1 tbsp (local) raw honey
Local raw honey

1 pinch of ground turmeric powder

Blend all ingredients for about 1 minute.

The reason why I use warm water for this is so that the honey would dissolve better (note that the raw honey should not go over 110 F or else you’ll kill the enzymes that make it so good for you). Well, it’s like drinking a hot chocolate that’s cooled off quite a bit. So, if that’s not your favorite way of drinking a chocolate smoothie, other alternatives that we’ve tried is to simply add a few ice cubes and then blending it again, which makes a tasty cold chocolate drink, or dissolving the honey in the warm water beforehand and then having it cool down in the fridge before making the smoothie.

This Glorious Green Juice is loaded with antioxidants, flavonoids and is fantastic for adrenal, liver and skin rejuvenation:

1 large bunch watercress
1/2 medium bunch curly parsley
2 cups sunflower sprouts
1 large green apple, sliced
3 medium apples, sliced
5-inch piece of ginger root, peeled
1 small lemon, peeled and quartered

Run everything through a juicer and serve fresh. This is one of my top go-to juices from my cleansing protocol, which also includes strategies such as:

How to Survive Growing up in Detroit

When people learn I’m from Detroit, they ask, “How’d you survive THAT?”
It’s a funny question, because I don’t think it’s any tougher growing up there than any other big city.
Sure, there’s sometimes rampant crime, environmental pollution, abandoned buildings, drugs, gangs and (gulp) really long, awful winters.
But you know something? There was a much greater threat to my health than all of those things combined…

It was what I chose to eat every single day.

With Detroit being world famous for it’s chili dogs (aka Coney Dogs), fried meaty delicacies of all kinds and more liquor stores per block than you can even imagine, it was a real challenge to eat healthy once I realized what I was doing to my body by eating so much processed food.
