When people learn I’m from Detroit, they ask, “How’d you survive THAT?”
It’s a funny question, because I don’t think it’s any tougher growing up there than any other big city.
Sure, there’s sometimes rampant crime, environmental pollution, abandoned buildings, drugs, gangs and (gulp) really long, awful winters.
But you know something? There was a much greater threat to my health than all of those things combined…
It was what I chose to eat every single day.
With Detroit being world famous for it’s chili dogs (aka Coney Dogs), fried meaty delicacies of all kinds and more liquor stores per block than you can even imagine, it was a real challenge to eat healthy once I realized what I was doing to my body by eating so much processed food. It wasn’t exactly easy moving from a Standard America Diet to a whole food plant-based way of eating. But I learned some powerful ways to transition from wherever you’re at with your current diet toward a more sustainable, energized, mindful and vital way of living. And I know how to help you avoid some of the major pitfalls along the way.
That’s why I spent the last two-and-a-half years writing my new book, Eaternity. I wanted to create a powerful, user-friendly guide to help you optimize your health and wellness with fun, delicious recipes and functional benefits for a variety of foods. Whether you’re looking to eat for weight loss, a healthier heart, good sleep, better sex or strong bones – there are 14 chapters and nearly 400 pages of powerful, actionable content to empower you with conscious food choices that can strengthen and heal your entire being.
