Pro-TF Fitness 6-Week Challenge

So, on Saturday, we started on the Pro-TF Fitness 6-Week Challenge. It’s basically a boot camp to help us plan out our meals and eat a specific diet for our weight loss goals, and of course, lose some weight and volume. Did I mention there’s exercise involved?

On Saturday, we had our orientation, took our “before” photos, and got out weight, height and BMI measured. This is to have a starting point so we can measure progress. The main advantage of going through this challenge with Pro-TF Fitness is that we were also assigned an accountability coach. Accountability seems to be what Pro-TF Fitness is best at, apart from employing very knowledgeable and fun coaches, and the lack thereof appears to be why so many other programs have failed for us in the past.

As I am writing this post, I am having trouble standing up… So, there are daily workout programs that are taught by several different coaches throughout the day and week. We have so far completed two. Here’s the workout plan for the week:

  • Monday: “No Mercy Monday”
  • Tuesday: “TNTuesday”
  • Wednesday: “Legendary Legs Day”
  • Thursday: “Butts and Guts”
  • Friday: “Furious Friday”
  • Saturday: “Sexy Saturday”

Also, as I am writing this, my stomach muscles are still sore from No Mercy Monday – I’m told that it’s the “upper body” day.

Feeling the soreness is not great but it’s good to know and to show me how much I really needed this. I hope that after 6 weeks (better less), I’ll be feeling much better and less sore.

Pro-TF Fitness is also a community where everyone is there to help everyone else succeed, which is really cool, and also acts a lot like a family. We love giving each other high fives!

If this sounds like something you would be interested in too, let us know, using the comment section below or the contact form, or whichever way you generally get in touch with us. You can also reach out to Pro-TF Fitness directly through their Facebook page and learn more about the 6-week challenge. Make sure you tell them you heard about it from us so we can score some extra brownie points 🙂

Glutamine and BCAAs

Trying out some new supplements for our 6-week nutrition & exercise challenge…

Our Glutamine choices seem pretty straightforward and these here don’t have any fillers or unnecessary coloring etc.

Body Fortress 100% Pure Glutamine Powder, 300g Jar (1ct), Nutrient Replenishment Powder for Post-Workout Recovery Glutamine Supplement

Evlution Nutrition Glutamine 5000 5 Grams of Pure Glutamine in Each Serving Unflavored Powder (60 Servings)

—–

For the BCAAs, it’s a little trickier. The one that comes highly recommended to us is the following one. Apparently, it’s mint flavor and goes well with the chocolate flavor protein powder 🙂

BPI Sports Best BCAA Powder, Branched Chain Amino Acids, Arctic Ice – Build Muscle, Improve Recovery and Enhanced Energy Levels 30 Servings, 10.58 Ounce

Independence Day: This Is Your Financial Independence Day

As we’re about to celebrate the US Independence Day on July 4, I’d like to submit the idea that we can also hope for and work towards our financial independence day. Just as our founding fathers fought for our independence back in the day, so we can today also fight to become financially independent, and for some of us, mark the day on our calendar when we found ourselves there, on our very own financial independence day.

Today, I’d like to talk about a training program that I’ve been looking into over the past month called, Wealthy Affiliate. While I’ve been a web developer for over 10 years now, I’ve found the training quite useful in terms of learning how to market a website, do keyword research and generate traffic.

What does this have to do with financial independence or independence day?

The training helps ordinary people that aren’t writers or marketers find out that they can be and that they can make income on the side or even a living out of it. When you think about it, everyone is an expert on at least one subject. Wealthy Affiliate provides the training on how to put that to good use and also provides the tools to succeed.

And Wealthy Affiliate is so much more too. Wealthy Affiliate is also an online community of over 800k active members from all walks of life that help each other succeed through forums, chats, and training built from past experiences. Members share with each other what works and what does not work. Also, members help each other when they get stuck. And, members give constructive criticism and provide feedback on each others’ websites to further boost search engine rank and community engagement.

How does the Affiliate in Wealthy Affiliate become Wealthy?

Affiliate marketing. The training provided at Wealthy Affiliate is a step by step guide on how to create a new website (with WordPress) and through thorough keyword research generate organic search engine traffic. When there’s traffic on the website(s), there’s also the potential for affiliate links. Affiliate links are, essentially, links to services and products that are related to what your website is about our products and services that we recommend. Once a user clicks on such a link and buys that service or product, the website owner receives a commission. Many website owners have become quite wealthy with this strategy.

Make it your financial independence day with Wealthy Affiliate

I’d like to challenge you today to mark this day, Independence Day, as the day that you begin your journey towards financial independence by giving Wealthy Affiliate a try and give yourself a chance to benefit from the many services and features that Wealthy Affiliate has to offer.

What can I do with the Starter Membership?

Here’s a comparison chart that shows exactly what’s available with the Starter Membership vs what Premium members get. Oh, and by the way, when you’re using the free Starter Membership, you get a discount to upgrade to Premium Membership. I recommend taking full advantage of the first 7 days of membership and learn as much as you possibly can, then, if you decide that Wealthy Affiliate is for you, upgrade your membership right before the 7 days are up and take advantage of the huge discount.

In closing, I’d like to offer anyone who is interested in learning more about the program at Wealthy Affiliate, please reach out to me with any concerns or questions. I’m here to help. You can use the comments below or send a message via the contact form.

Pokemon Go did what Michelle Obama could not in nearly 8 years

Yes, we downloaded Pokemon Go (or spelled correctly “Pokémon Go”) and let the kids have a go at it.

Pokemon Go

For those who don’t know what this latest craze is all about, here’s a blurb from its Wikipedia page:

Pokémon Go (stylized as Pokémon GO) is a free-to-play location-based augmented realitymobile game, developed by Niantic and published by The Pokémon Company as part of the Pokémon franchise. It was released worldwide in July 2016 for iOS and Android devices.

The game allows players to capture, battle, and train virtual Pokémon who appear throughout the real world. It makes use of GPS and the camera of compatible devices. Although the game is free-to-play, it supports in-app purchases of additional gameplay items. An optional companion Bluetooth wearable device, the Pokémon Go Plus, is planned for future release and will alert users when Pokémon are nearby. It can be viewed as an emerging massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) although the social elements are not directly internal in the game.[2]

The game received a mixed critical reception, and attracted negative attention due to reports of accidents and public nuisance associated with it. However, it was the most downloaded smartphone app in the United States in its first three days of release and was a boon to the stock value of Nintendo, which owns part of The Pokémon Company.

Apart from the negative reports of people wandering around, glued to their phones and exploring places on foot that they usually would never visit outside of the game, I propose to you that what Pokemon Go did do is something that Michelle Obama was not able to accomplish in nearly 8 years: getting Americans and especially children and teenagers to get out more and get more exercise. What’s actually funny too is that when I set out to write this article, I did not know that other blogs were writing the same thing… I found several other websites that have a similar headline after publishing this one… Here’s a sampling:

Pokemon GO got more American kids off the sofa in 4 days than Michelle Obama’s 7 years of haranguing

5 things we learned from ‘Pokémon Go’

Pokémon Go may be the greatest unintentional health fad ever

I won’t lie to you… the game can be slightly addicting. And we let the kids try it out on one of our phones (thankfully, they don’t have iPhones or Android and can’t play it!). They really enjoyed it since they’re already big Pokémon fans anyway. But it was kinda funny to what one of them walk to the store, phone in hand and playing Pokémon Go, and sure enough, nearly walked into a sign post because he wasn’t looking where he was going.

Apart from being slightly dangerous if you’re not paying attention, Pokémon Go seems to be helping with getting us to be more active. And the game also seems to be bringing us more together as a family, having something to talk about and do that we’re all interested in.

Funny how stuff like that can work out like that sometimes!

Open Your Mind from GoodOnYa Deli

Today, I tried the “Open Your Mind” and I was actually pleasantly surprised by this drink. I’ve heard a few positive things and a few negative things about adding butter or coconut oil to your coffee and decided to test it out for myself. I think by blending both into the coffee with a hint of cinnamon and raw honey (these were optional on my part), GoodOnYa Deli was able to pull it off excellently!

Here’s some excerpts from their ordering page:

Organic, 100% Grass Fed Butter
Organic, Raw Coconut Oil

We blend that together with Dark, Rich, Organic Coffee.

The healthy fats shoot to your brain and give you energy and focus. They also balance out the caffeine.

The butter and oil together make turn it into a creamy latte drink you have to taste to experience.

Superfood Power Smoothie with Navitas Naturals

Last week I ordered a number of Navitas Naturals products and decided to experiment with a Superfood Smoothie. The following is what I was able to come up with and has become a favorite for us. Here it is in a nutshell:

In a blender add:

1 cup almond milk (we use Blue Diamond)
Blue Diamond Almond Breeze

2 cups warm drinking water (around 80 F is fine)

1 tsp Navitas Naturals Goji Powder
Navitas Naturals Goji Powder

1 tsp Navitas Naturals Camu Powder
Navitas Naturals Camu Powder

1 tsp Navitas Naturals Lucuma Powder
Navitas Naturals Lucuma Powder

1 tsp Navitas Naturals Acai Berry Powder
Navitas Naturals Acai Berry Powder

1 tsp Navitas Naturals Pomegranate Powder
Navitas Naturals Pomegranate Powder

2 heaping tsp Navitas Naturals Cacao Powder
Navitas Naturals Cacao Powder

contents of 1 capsule of Nature’s Way Elderberry
Nature's Way Elderberry

contents of 1 capsule of Nature’s Way Echinacea
Nature's Way Echinacea

1 eye dropper of Solgar Vitamin D3 (5000 IU)
Solgar Vitamin D3 (5000 IU)

2 eye droppers Omica Organic Liquid Stevia (with vanilla)
Omica Organic Liquid Stevia

1 tbsp (local) raw honey
Local raw honey

1 pinch of ground turmeric powder
IMG_8441

Blend all ingredients for about 1 minute.

The reason why I use warm water for this is so that the honey would dissolve better (note that the raw honey should not go over 110 F or else you’ll kill the enzymes that make it so good for you). Well, it’s like drinking a hot chocolate that’s cooled off quite a bit. So, if that’s not your favorite way of drinking a chocolate smoothie, other alternatives that we’ve tried is to simply add a few ice cubes and then blending it again, which makes a tasty cold chocolate drink, or dissolving the honey in the warm water beforehand and then having it cool down in the fridge before making the smoothie.
